INTERVIEW W/ FERNANDO COSTANTINI AND FROM SCRATCH

FROM SCRATCH ALL STARTED IN 2018 WITH A PERSONAL REALIZATION: EVERYTHING I WAS DOING, I WAS BUILDING FROM THE GROUND UP. IT WAS NOT ALWAYS DIRECTLY LINKED TO MUSIC AT FIRST. BUT THE PHILOSOPHY BEHIND THE LABEL FROM SCRATCH IS THAT EVERYTHING BEGINS WITH A SINCERE PURPOSE, A MESSAGE THAT YOU WANT TO SEND OUT TO THE WORLD. FOR THE COLLAB I INVITED MAXENCE. HE FIRST SHOWED UP AT MY EVENTS OVER A DECADE AGO, AND OVER THE YEARS, WE NATURALLY GREW CLOSER. SOMEWHERE ALONG THE WAY, HE REVEALED HIS SPARK AS A DEEJAY IN THE MAKING. HE’S BEEN THERE WITH REAL SUPPORT WHEN IT COUNTED AND NOW IT’S MY TURN, BRINGING HIM INTO THE FROM SCRATCH JOURNEY. WHAT WE GIVE ALWAYS FINDS ITS WAY BACK. Upcoming event 25th of May

There will be showcases, releases… and as the name suggests, every project is built from scratch. The vision is to create a 360° platform where all forms of art, sound, image, writing, and more move in harmony. Through the label, each artist brings their own perspective, shaping a collective journey rooted in intention and creation. Obviously, the label is oriented toward electronic music but open to every sub-genre. For future plans: the first official From Scratch showcase is happening on July 2nd at Club der Visionaere. After summer, we’ll release FS.02, a compilation of various artists produced by really close friends.

I learned to beatmatch with a radio cassette on one side and a turntable that was not a Technics, and I was trying to mix anything with the ten records I had. Then a friend lent me two Technics 1210s and told me: “You have two weeks to put two tracks together.” So day and night I was training, even at a lower volume while my parents were asleep. What triggered me to start DJing was the way music provided so much emotion to an audience, a powerful tool to create moments. I was 16 back then and still grateful to music today. Big risks bring big opportunities. Growth begins the moment you step out of your comfort zone and face your fears, that’s where the magic unfolds. It won’t always be easy, but turning fear into strength makes you feel like a superhero. One day, you’ll look back and say: I did it. No matter the outcome, embrace the journey, and the memories will live within you forever.

Mixtape Maxence

Back in 2017, I was in Georgia playing B2B with my dear Katou. A huge storm hit, wind and rain were pushing the speakers, and we were doing our best to cover the whole setup. But we kept playing… for nearly three hours. While one of us played, the other held the speakers to keep them from falling, then we’d switch. It was intense, chaotic, and beautiful at the same time and our very first time playing together.
